NFL Live: Cowboys back to basics

Here's NFL Live talking about the Cowboys getting back to basics...

There isn't any way the Cowboys can come into this game not knowing that it's a huge game if they want to continue on their run to the playoffs.

And Schlereth is right. The defense is playing very well right now so they should continue this on Sunday. Now it's up to the offense to bounce back from a poor game in Green Bay and put up some points on that tough Skins defense.

Cowboys need some ‘Colombos’ on defense

For quite a while now it's been obvious that Marc Colombo is the toughest, most grittiest and meanest player on the Dallas Cowboys...

The Cowboys need that attitude on defense. I know there would have been a big fine and maybe a suspension but it would have been nice to see Colombo just knock Brandon Jacobs upside his head in that video.

Who the toughest Cowboys defender?

The fact that no one name jumps out at you is a problem.

Brandon Jacobs is just a moron!

By dcfanatic, September 22, 2009 4:15 pm

There are some players in this league who I would never want wearing the star on their helmets and this moron Brandon Jacobs is on top of the list...

Did Jacobs jump on the star?

Of course he did. It fits his M.O. of being the idiot amongst the crowd. I would think half of his teammates can't stand him either.

And this is enough.

Next time the Cowboys play the Giants someone from the Cowboys defense needs to knock the **** out of this moron!

Marc Colombo almost did after the game...

Man I wish Colombo would have clocked him one!

Now Clayton has me worried!

By dcfanatic, September 9, 2009 1:54 am

All summer we have been talking about the offensive line depth and how it's definitely not one of the strengths of this team.

I wasn't really too worried about the starters until 'The Professor' John Clayton reminded me of something...

Colombo 30, Kosier 30, Davis 31, Gurode 31, Flozell 157. Ok, Flo's really 34.

So even though the professor is misinformed, and maybe can't count, this offensive line does have five starter over 30 years old.

I really hope Doug Free has been saving up all of his great play for when he's a starter. And I hope Robert Brewster is somehow the new Larry Allen.

Dukes says Colombo #1 tough guy

By dcfanatic, August 17, 2009 6:13 pm

Usually I hear Jamie Dukes babbling and I wonder how he keeps his job on The NFL Network, but this time he may have gotten it right, read here.

1. Marc Colombo (OT, Cowboys) – Colombo is not among the most gifted athletes in the NFL. In fact, I would say he is in the lowest percentile of athleticism in the league.  But there is no doubt he’s a  mean, vile, nasty, cantankerous…you get the picture.  Colombo plays with bad intentions and he wants to maul you.  Colombo has taken the spot held for a decade by Jon Runyan and, like his predecessor, gets beat from time to time. But his willingness to throw his body around is admirable.  I must confess, it was music that convinced me Colombo was No. 1 on this list.  Colombo is the lead singer of a heavy — and I mean heavy — metal band that includes other tough guys in Leonard Davis and Kyle Kosier.  Listen to the rage with which he sings.  That elevator is not going up to the top floor.

Who doesn't love it when we see Colombo going after some defensive lineman a few seconds after the whistle. I know I love it and I think his teammates get fired up from seeing it. I wish this team had more tough guys like Colombo on the defensive side of the football.

Big Nate: No days off for players!

By dcfanatic, July 23, 2009 10:55 pm

Former Cowboys Pro Bowl playing, Super Bowl winning offensive lineman Nate Newton is not on board with the Cowboys giving any of this current group of players any days off in training camp.

Big Nate on ESPN Radio

The guy with Nate in the podcast is Mike Fisher who is sitting in on The Michael Irvin Show this week while Mike and Kevin are on vacation.

He's a guy I can do without most of the time. Him just ignoring Nate on that one issue was annoying and he does BS like that to make himself more of a part of the story. It's a tired act and it's part of the reason he used to be part of the media in Dallas back in the day, but really isn't any more. Not sure why ESPN and Irvin even gave him his short term gig.

Back to the topic.

I think Nate is referring to the idea that once again Wade will be giving some of the older players (ex. Flozell Adams) and players with some injury history, (ex. Flo and Marc Colombo)  one of the two practices off when the Cowboys are going thru two-a-days.

I am not against it and I not for it.

Meaning if Wade does it then it's ok because we do need these guys for the entire season and killing them in August is probably not a wise move.

But if Wade works them for both practices then I am ok with it because this team has to stop being soft. So maybe these days where guys have to 'tough it out' will help them down the line when December rolls around.

I guess it would have to come down to a player by player evaluation in determining who's getting a day off and who's not.

Just don't be a pushover Wade. These guys are professional athletes and they should be able to handle a full training camp without any days off if they are not injured.

Audio Blowout: Ware, Bradie, Ellis, Irvin and Me on ESPN Radio!

By dcfanatic, July 9, 2009 7:05 pm

Where do we even begin with this post? First let me say ESPN Radio 103.3 and The Ticket were awesome today.

I still love Fan 105.3 too, but today The Ticket and ESPN 103.3 were just awesome.

Let's begin with Bradie James on ESPN talking about Greg Ellis' comments about leadership...

James on Ellis talking leadership

Well he played 34 plays against the Giants, read here. That's 46% of the plays in that game. So Ellis can take his BS and go to Oakland with it.

I love Bradie basically coming out and saying that he think Ellis is disgruntled. It's obvious that he is and he has himself to blame for it.

Mosley was right, Ellis became a whiner. We all heard and saw it over the last few years.

Now let's go to the big story. Here's audio of James listening to Ellis' insane comments from yesterday and then also Ware's comments from Sirius Radio today in response to Ellis...

James listening to Ellis/Ware

Is it me or are both Ware and James basically laughing at Ellis in here. As if to say that Ellis is just crying like a little girl and there is now way in hell that Ware would be looking to stay off the field so that Ellis could get some time in the game.

Bravo to James for being real here.

Ware was politically correct which I understand, but I also wish he would have just came out and said that Ellis was out of his F'ing mind on this one.

Here's an interview Ware also did with Norm Hitzges on The Ticket this morning...

Ware on The Ticket with Norm

The man is a great role model. He will not do what Greg Ellis did to Anthony Spencer yesterday which was cast him in a negative light in a public radio interview.

Just line him up and let him do his thing this season Wade. And Jerry, give the man the contract he deserves already.

We are not even close to being done.

Here's Michael Irvin talking about the Ellis/Ware thing on his radio show earlier today...

Irvin talks veterans on calls

So there is the scenario in which we would see guys telling other guys to change up what the coaches want. But he is making the point that the scenario that Ellis was talking about is just silly.

Of course Ware is denying this because it's not true. The facts are that Ware played 97% of the plays last season just like James said in the audio from above. He's the best in the game and there is no where to hide, lol.

Let's move on to James talking about Wade and how he has noticed changes in 'Mr. Softy'...

Bradie talks Wade Phillips

We already know Jacobs is a moron. Now I hope James gives him a pop or two when they play the Giants.

Can you say tension when they brought up Kitna's name? lol. Gadzooks, I hope these two can work it out ASAP. Right now it does not seem like it's worked out yet.

Encouraging when James talks about Wade being more hands on. I am not yet convinced that Wade can be who I want him to be, but let's just hope he's not being the pushover that he's been in the past.

We now go to James talking about Romo and Brooking...

Bradie on Brooking and Romo

I have said all along that I think Brooking and Thomas were interchangable. If anything I think Brooking will be better against the run.

Romo is the mack. Period, point blank.

And I lost track of all that was going on in the clips, but somewhere in all that goodness James talked about how he was not a fan of 'Hard Knocks'. This is why James is a one of my favorite players.

Now for the finally. Let me first preface this by saying I think if the Cowboys just throw out a bunch of rookie and young players on special teams again this season they will once again be a less than average unit.

I also want to say that this season I only want one captain for each unit (offense, defense, special teams).

Here's me talking to Bradie James...

DCFanatic on ESPN Radio

You like my intro right, lol.

Free Reign talk about new stardom

By dcfanatic, June 26, 2009 8:23 pm

Here's a great interview with the big guys from Free Reign...

These are really taking this seriously. Colombo is going to be taking singing lessons soon, lol.

As long as Davis doesn't try to do any crowd surfing I think this will be harmless and I think these guys know it's football first and foremost.
