Cowboy 7, Skins 6: It is what it is

The Dallas Cowboys are 7-3 and that's what I wished for this morning.

That offensive performance won't get you many wins in the NFL so I know the Cowboys need a ton of work.

But that defensive performance will.

We just need to figure out some things on offense. And it didn't help that Romo had that hip pointer early in the game. I think that had him throwing some really bad passes.

And if you don't think the Cowboys need to go get a #1 WR in the draft next April you need a check up from the neck up. Roy, Miles and Patrick are all #2's who can be complimentary pieces, but none of them can beat double teams and none of them can change the way a defensive game plan is devised on Tuesdays.

Bring on the Raiders.

Yeah I agree. But you gotta stop being a homer. Dallas is playing mediocre football right now; so treat them like a mediocre football team. This team doesn't blow out teams often, instead they usually play down to the opposing team's level of competition. So stop being a homer and tell things as they really are.

Gotta agree! You're being way too homerish. With luck, this team is a first round playoff team...at best. Like his receivers, Romo is a #2 as well. Their struggle, again, today is on him. So many opportunities to hit receives to sustain drives...too far out in front, behind, high, short. Defense rocked for sure!!

  2. Roy Williams says:

Roy Williams is a #4 receiver getting #1 pay

  3. CRuss says:

I thought we were all homers here. And if you regularly listen to DC's radio show, you know he tells it like it is. (I've heard several episodes where the language unsuitable for children and small pets.)

As for today's game, let Al Davis speak: Just win, baby!

A loss today and Thanksgiving would have sucked.

  4. The Soothsayer says:

The Cowboys barely beat by 1 point half a Redskins team today, missing RB Clinton Portis, TE Chris Cooley and DT Albert Haynesworth, and losing RB Ladell Betts and G Chad Rinehart to injury. Yet this crippled Washington team held Dallas scoreless until the last 5 minutes. But for two missed field goals by Shaun Suisham, the Cowboys would have lost this game.

This offense is in disarray. Yeah they ran the ball a lot, between the 20s, but failed to establish a running game. The passing game was largely ineffective. Tony Romo didn't complete a pass until the end of the third quarter, but he did make the one play that really mattered at the end.

It was ugly, real ugly. The Cowboys keep playing like this, and they're not going anywhere soon.

I'll take the W. I always take the W. But this game revealed serious concerns that must be addressed before December.

Arnt we forgetting the skins are #1 in pass defense?

Soothsayer... Serious Talk... U Keep it the REALEST. Props 2 Wade & D! Garrett IS WHAT HE IS... (Refer back to Soothsayers comments in other threads) Wish Cowboys Nation could read his assessment related to his status.

I dont agree miles has made plays these last couple of games he has been open but he hasnt had opportunities

    DC:

Guess who failed to make a sack on romo when he had the TD pass to crayton? It was none other than deadskin trash-talker Arapaho. Man, that has to sting for the rookie, he has a chance to make a play and back-up his talk and fails. I think dallas should make Shuisam their mvp; he kept 6 points off the board.

  7. Jose says:

No sacks for B. OKRAPO, but G. Ellis has got to be lickin his chops the way Dallas has be playing these last two games. Raiders have got the corners to cause some coverage sacks

  8. elite2384 says:

its ok deadskin fans, take the loss and shut the hell up. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.......

We made plays that counted and Redskins didn't. Yes, the offense need to play better but I'm not going to apologize for this ugly win over our biggest rivalry.

I know it is tempting to take the last two games and worry about all the problems the offense has had putting up points.

But... take out the last game of 2007 when we'd clinched the #1 seed, and the total point difference over the last 4 meetings of these two teams is a grand total of 8 points, an average of 2 points per game, with no game more than a 5 point win. These division rivals know each other well, as Romo said, and always seem to play each other close regardless of their respective records and rankings. Add in Romo's injury which may well have affected his performance, and I just don't read too much into this game. Things can change so much from week to week in the league as a whole. The winless Bucs can beat the Packers, and then the Packers can beat us. The 2-7 Raiders and Chiefs can seem totally inept one week and then beat the 7-2 Bengals and the 6-3 Steelers the next week. Last week the 1-7 Rams gave the 8-0 Saints a good scare. The now 9-0 Colts have had 3 close games in a row and have remained undefeated despite showing some real flaws.

What we as fans do is worry and analyze and speculate, but myself, I just can't get too worked up about this ugly win and read too much into it and make any sweeping judgments about it. The league in general is so unpredictable, and games between these two teams are even more so, and violate all the expectations you think should otherwise apply.

We won. That's really all that counts. We escaped without any major injuries. That's good. We saw a solid performance by Doug Free. That's really good.

What this game means for the next game and the rest of the season? I really have no idea and despite what anyone says, neither does anyone else!

  11. CRuss says:

Honestly, that was one of my favorite wins ever from this franchise. Why do I say that? Because, it allows Cowboy fans to enjoy Thanksgiving.

A win is a win is a win and all the other NFC East teams can cry if they want, but they'll be crying in the Cowboys' rearview mirror.

And finally, the team now has an identity. The offense will produce seven 4th-quarter points. Take it to the bank. If the defense does their job and holds opponents to less than that, it's a win! Mission accomplished. Book 'em, Dano.

As dissappointed as some fans may be, it's all about the "W." And it's all about making the playoffs. Don't forget that in the year the Giants won the legendary Super Bowl over the 18-0 Patriots, they lost to the Cowboys TWICE before whupping them in the playoffs. And recall, too, that year the Cowboys had a bye and the homefield advantage for the playoffs. In other words, when you get into the playoffs, it's a whole new ball game.

This is a GREAT WEEK for Cowboy Nation! Enjoy it!
